About Golden Gate Bridge
Building an impossible bridge.
Get the facts about one of the world's most beautiful bridges.
The Golden Gate Bridge is an iconic structure connecting the city of San Francisco to Marin County, California. It spans almost two miles across the Golden Gate, the narrow strait where San Francisco Bay opens to meet the Pacific Ocean. The dream of connecting San Francisco to its northern neighbors became a reality when construction commenced in 1933. Given the chance for steady employment amid the Great Depression, construction crews braved treacherous conditions as the roadway and towers took shape over open water. The Golden Gate Bridge, opened to the public in 1937, has endured as a picture-perfect landmark and an engineering marvel.

Lombard Street
Lombard Street is an East–West street in San Francisco, California, that is famous for a steep, one-block section with eight hairpin turns. The favorite one-block section, claimed to be “the crookedest street in the world,” is located along the eastern segment of the Russian Hill neighborhood. It is a significant tourist attraction, receiving around two million visitors annually and up to 17,000 per day on busy summer weekends as of 2015.

Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary Prison
Alcatraz Island was a maximum high-security federal prison, 1.25 miles off the coast of San Francisco, California, which operated from August 11, 1934, until March 21, 1963.

Painted Ladies Victorian Houses
One of the most photographed locations in San Francisco, Alamo Square's famous “postcard row” at Hayes and Steiner Streets is a visual treat. A tight, escalating formation of Victorian houses is back-dropped by downtown skyscrapers, providing a stunning contrast. The grassy square itself is an ideal midday break.

The Palace of Fine Arts
In the Marina District, a monumental structure was originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition to exhibit works of art. It is still situated on its original site, one of only a few surviving structures from the Exposition. It was rebuilt in 1965, and the lagoon, walkways, and seismic retrofit were renovated in early 2009.

Muir Woods National Monument
It is part of California’s Golden Gate National Recreation Area, north of San Francisco. It’s known for its towering old-growth redwood trees. Trails wind among the trees to Cathedral Grove, Bohemian Grove, and Redwood Creek. The Ben Johnson and Dip sea trails climb a hillside for views of the treetops, the Pacific Ocean, and Mount Tamalpais in adjacent Mount Tamalpais State Park.

AT&T Park
AT&T Park is a baseball park in the South Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Since 2000, it has been the home of the San Francisco Giants, the city's Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise. Originally named Pacific Bell Park, then SBC Park in 2003 after SBC Communications acquired Pacific Bell, the stadium was ultimately christened AT&T Park in 2006, following SBC's buyout of AT&T. The park stands along the San Francisco Bay, a segment named McCorvey Cove in honor of former Giants player Willie McCovey.
